Blog #3

The Battle of the Nudes by Antonio del Pollaiuolo was created to depict muscles of the male body reacting under tension. This is an engraving of men fighting. The artist took one model and put that model into different positions. This piece reminds me of how men fight. Although I do not think that men now a days would be fighting nude. They are trying to show how strong they are both physically and mentally. In the piece the artist shows just that. You can see all the muscles in their body flexing to show their strength. Also the piece shows how hard it is to deal with stress or tension. Every form in the image fights with great intent to live. It is all a competition

  1. I love this piece! I just love the fact that the mens body is so anatomically accurate! The shading showing where the muscles are on the body is so cool. I haven't seen a lot of pictures of body, mostly sculptures, and I must say, this is such a good piece!

  2. This piece of art is shows just how much we have in common with the people of the past. This is a picture of war and men fighting. Are we not at war now? My point is that no matter what century or generation we live there are always shared traits between society's no matter how different we seem.

  3. It's neat to see that the artist was also biologically educated. This piece could actually be worth studying to gain an understanding of our muscular system.
